Asteriods Movie Coming To A Galaxy Near You

Universal has won a bidding war with four other film studios to make an Asteroids cash-in tie-in movie.

Matthew Lopez will write the script for the feature adaptation, which will be produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura.

Unlike modern games Asteriods has no plot so Lopez will have to make a plot from scratch, most likely a cash-in of other galatic successes such as Star Wars, Armaggedon etc. The process isn’t new to Universal who are turning Hasbro board games Battleship and Candy Land both into films – I’m just as speechless as you are.

Lopez is best known for his work with Disney where he worked on Bedtime Stories, Return to witch mountain and the forthcoming “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” film. So we now that Asteroids will have a happy ending which is always good to know.

Meanwhile producer di Bonaventura has worked on the soon to be released movie – G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra.

This is a film I don’t think I’ll look forward to, I think I may just buy an Atari instead.
