Borderlands Demo in Purgatory
![]()
Hey, we all love demos. They give us a chance to try out a game before we buy them, and that’s a pretty great thing in this day and age when entertainment is so expensive. The only problem with demos, is that they take time; lots of time, to create.
According to Gearbox’s Mikey Neumann, Borderlands may arrive on our shelves demo-less as a result of lack of time, he claims:
“We talk about a demo every day. We would love to do a demo. There’s obviously factors there. If and when we do one, I don’t know if it’d be pre-launch or post-launch, because …there’s a lot of factors there. We would love to promise a demo, we can’t quite yet, we just want to get the game done… That’s always the hardest thing for developers to do—you never quite know how the time’s going to work out. We’re doing really well, but I can’t promise it.”
From where I’m sitting, this situation boils down to two choices: the first is that Gearbox put out a demo and have to rush the final stages of development on the actual game, or secondly, we put all of our faith Gearbox as a developer and just go out and buy the damn thing anyway. We did it with Gears of War and Oblivion, and I did it with every PS3 game that i’ve ever bought, so I think i’ll have to manage now. In the end, I guess I’d just rather have a better overall game than a game that could have done with a bit more polish but has a demo. What do you think?
